Can the seller see me?

No. Your camera is never used. What they actually see is a name and your bids.

No. Your camera is not used, not requested and not switched on. A Metzee show is one-way video: the seller broadcasts, everybody else watches.

There is no version of this where you appear.

What the seller does see

  • Your display name, next to a bid or a chat message
  • Your bids on their items
  • A count of people watching, not a list of who
  • Your delivery details, but only after you have bought something — and only what is needed to send it

That is the whole list.

What they do not see

  • Your face, your camera, your microphone. Never requested.
  • Your phone number, email or address before a purchase.
  • Your maximum bid. If you have set a ceiling, the number is invisible to everyone including the seller. That is deliberate: a visible ceiling is a ceiling people bid up to.
  • Your other purchases, from them or anybody else.
  • Who you are, beyond the name you chose. Can I see who I am bidding against?

The name is the one thing to think about

Your display name is public in a show — against your bids and your chat messages. If that is your full real name and you would rather it were not, change it. It takes one tap and your order history is unaffected. Changing your display name

That is the only privacy decision a show actually asks of you.

Chat is public

Everything you type in a show is visible to everyone in it, including the seller and their team. The app says so on the question box: Everyone in the show can see your question.

So nothing private in the chat — not a phone number, not an address, not a payment detail. Anyone asking you for those in a show chat is a reason to report them rather than to reply. How to report a seller or listing

Reactions and watching quietly

You can watch without doing anything at all. No name appears, nothing is announced, and you are one unit of a viewer count.

Reactions — Send a heart, React {emoji} — are anonymous as far as the room is concerned, and sellers do notice them. A silent room is hard to host.

If you are on a seller's team

Different situation: a store's team members carry a badge buyers can see, so a host or moderator is identifiable as part of the store rather than a neutral viewer. That is the point of it.
