Reporting takes about twenty seconds and it is anonymous. The part that decides whether anything happens is the one line you write.
Where it is
On the thing itself. There is a report option on a store, a listing, a show, a video, a story, a chat message and an account — the sheet is headed accordingly: Report this store, Report this item, Report this show, Report this message, Report this account.
Report the specific thing, not the person in general. A reported listing points at the listing; a reported account is a judgement about everything they do. The first is usually what you mean.
The seven reasons
What’s wrong with it?
Not allowed to be soldFake or counterfeitScam or fraudAbusive or hatefulInappropriateSpamSomething else
Pick the closest. Getting it slightly wrong is fine; the text is what carries the detail.
Then the line that matters
Anything that helps (optional) — not optional in practice, because a reason code alone is a vote and a reason code plus a specific sentence is evidence.
This works: "Listing says 22K hallmarked, photos show no BIS mark or HUID."
This does not: "Fake, please remove."
The first can be checked by somebody who has never seen the listing. The second asks them to work out what you meant.
Then Send report, and you get Thanks — Metzee will look at it.
It is anonymous
They won’t know who reported them.
Said plainly on the sheet, and it matters: you can report a seller you are mid-transaction with without that becoming a fight. If you are worried about retaliation, that is the sentence to read.
Reporting is not the same as a dispute
Two different tools for two different problems, and using the wrong one costs you time:
- Your order went wrong → raise it on the order. That is how you get your money back. How to raise a problem.
- Something should not be on Metzee at all → report it. That is how it comes down.
A report does not refund you. A dispute does not remove a listing. Where both apply, do both.
What happens next
A human looks at it. You are not told the outcome, because the outcome is about somebody else's account.
That feels unsatisfying and is the right trade: the alternative is telling one user what action was taken against another, which nobody should be able to find out by filing a report. What happens to a reported seller.
What to report
- Items that cannot legally be sold
- Counterfeits presented as genuine
- Gold described as hallmarked with no visible marks. Can I sell gold?
- Anyone asking you to pay outside Metzee — that removes every protection and is the commonest way buyers lose money here. Why off-platform deals are risky
- Abuse in a chat, in a show or in messages
What not to report
A seller whose item you did not like, a price you think is too high, or somebody who outbid you. Bidding against people is the product.
