Use the calendar rather than unlisting. Your store has closed days and holiday dates, and setting them is what a holiday should mean.
Taking everything off sale works, but it is the blunt version and it costs you more than it saves.
What the calendar does
Closed weekdays — the days you never post, every week.
Holidays — a date range you are away.
Dispatch deadlines are built around both. An order that lands while you are closed gets a deadline that accounts for it, so you are not late for being shut.
Buyers are warned about an upcoming closure before they buy, rather than discovering it afterwards. How to set your dispatch deadline
Why that beats unlisting
Your items keep selling. Somebody buying on Tuesday for a Monday dispatch is a sale you would otherwise have refused.
You keep your place. An empty store is a store nobody follows and nothing ranks.
Nothing has to be rebuilt. Relisting thirty items by hand on your return is an evening you will not enjoy.
When to actually take things down
A long absence, beyond a holiday — weeks rather than days.
Something you cannot post at all while away, like anything perishable or fragile.
Stock that is physically elsewhere.
For those, take the specific items off sale rather than everything. You put them back on when you return; nothing is deleted. What happens to items that do not sell?
Before you go
Finish what is open. Post anything sold, answer any return, close any dispute. An order left moving while you are away is the one thing that turns a holiday into a problem.
Do not leave a scheduled show in the calendar that nobody will host.
Set your capacity low if you want orders to keep coming but at a trickle. That is the dial between fully open and fully shut. How to set daily capacity
If you simply go quiet without doing either
Nothing is taken away — there is no inactivity charge and no deadline. But buyers whose orders are late do not know you are away, and a missed dispatch counts against you whatever the reason. What happens if I stop selling for a while?
The calendar is two minutes and it prevents exactly that.
