There is one thing to learn in this category, and everything else follows from it.
Measure it, do not size it
A label size is not comparable across makers, countries or decades. A medium from one brand is a large from another, and a garment that has been altered does not match its own label at all.
So measure the garment flat, and put the numbers in the listing:
Shirts and jackets — chest (armpit to armpit, doubled), shoulder seam to shoulder seam, sleeve from shoulder seam to cuff, back length from the base of the collar. Trousers — waist flat (doubled), inseam, rise, leg opening. Knitwear — chest, length, sleeve.
Say they are flat measurements. Doing this once per item removes most of the returns in this category and all of the arguments.
Then say what it is made of
Read the composition label and quote it. Fabric decides drape, warmth, shrinkage and how it should be washed, and a buyer who knows the fibre knows what they are getting. If the label is missing or illegible, say so.
Alterations
Taken in, let out, hemmed, shortened sleeves, replaced buttons. All normal; all to be declared, because an altered garment measures differently from its label and a buyer deserves to know which they are buying.
What to show on camera
- The garment flat, whole
- The measuring tape on it, for at least the chest or waist
- The composition and care labels
- Cuffs, collar and hems — where wear shows first
- Any marks, deliberately
Smell and storage
Say it if there is one. Storage, smoke and damp survive a parcel, and an unexpected smell is a return every time.
On branded pieces
Show what the garment carries — labels, stitching at the labels, any tags or codes — and say where you got it. Nobody authenticates clothing over a video call, so what sells is the record, not the assurance. If you cannot say where something came from, say so and price it accordingly.
Delivery
Clothing is forgiving in transit and ruined by damp. Packing menswear.

Questions people ask
Do I still give the size?
Give both. The label size helps people search; the measurements are what they buy on.
Should I wash before selling?
Yes, following the care label, and say that you did. Never wash something whose label you cannot read.
What about a stain I cannot remove?
Show it, measure it, locate it. A described stain is a discount; a discovered one is a return.
