Can I collect instead of having it posted?

Only where the seller offers it — and you agree to the terms before you bid, not after you win.

Only if the seller offers it. Collection is a delivery option a store switches on, not something a buyer can choose on any item.

How to tell before you bid

The listing's delivery information says so. Some items are Pickup only; others offer collection alongside delivery, and at checkout you get Choose a pickup point.

What you see before bidding is the area, not the full address. The exact address arrives once you have paid.

You agree to the terms before you bid

This is the part worth understanding. A pickup item carries terms — how long you have to collect, and what the store keeps if you never come — and you accept them before bidding, not after winning.

The seller's own screen says it plainly: They agree to collect before they bid or buy.

So there is no stage where you win something and then discover you have 24 hours to get to a village 80km away. If you cannot reach the place, the time to decide that is before the bid.

What you get once you have paid

  • The full address and the seller's note — the "ring the bell twice", "ask at the chemist" sort of thing
  • The collection days and hours
  • A collect-by time, which is 72 hours by default though the store can set its own
  • A pickup code, which is what you hand over when you collect

The clock starts later than you think

Not at payment. The collect-by clock starts when the store marks the order ready, and days the store or the pickup point is closed do not count.

A store can give you more time. It cannot give you less.

Why collect at all

  • No delivery charge, usually.
  • Nothing is in transit, which for something fragile or heavy removes the main risk entirely.
  • You see it before you take it away, which is worth more than it sounds.

What to check when you are there

Open it, look at it, compare it with the listing — before you walk away. Collection is the one case where you can.

If you cannot make it

Message the store from the order. They can offer you a courier price, and paying it turns the order into a normal delivery to your address. Declining keeps the pickup as agreed, and the clock keeps running unless they give you more time.

More: how pickup works, what pickup only means, what if I am a little late collecting.
