My chat messages are not sending

Seven reasons, each with its own message on screen. Read the error — it tells you which.

The screen tells you which of these it is. Read the message rather than retrying, because two of the seven get worse if you keep trying.

The seven reasons

1. Nothing typed. Write a message.

2. Too long. Messages can be up to 300 characters. Split it.

3. You are going too fast. Slow down a little — the limit is five messages in five seconds. Retrying immediately makes this worse rather than better. Wait a moment.

4. A word on Metzee's own blocked list. Your message has a word that isn’t allowed on Metzee. Rephrase.

5. A word the seller has muted. Your message has a word the host has muted. Every seller can mute words for their own show — often prices, rival sellers, or payment apps they do not want discussed. It is their room.

6. You are muted from chat. You can’t chat in shows until {date} — a moderation action, with its end date shown. How moderation works

7. The store has blocked you. This store isn’t accepting activity from your account. Per store, not platform-wide. Can I block a buyer?

And one more that is not an error: the show ended more than an hour ago. This show has ended. Chat stays open for an hour afterwards, which is enough time to thank a seller or sort out a detail, and then it closes.

On the word filters

Worth knowing how they match, because people assume they can be worked around and then wonder why f u c k i n g and ch.utiya and FUCKKKK all bounce.

Matching is deliberately not whole-words-as-typed. Spaced-out letters, repeated letters, punctuation inserted mid-word — all of it is handled, because all of it was tried. So rephrasing properly works and dodging does not.

If there is no message at all

Then it is the connection rather than a rule. Check your connection and try again.

The tell: if bids are still updating, you are connected and something refused the message. If nothing is moving, you have dropped.

What never helps

Sending it five more times. That trips the rate limit, so a message that was refused for one reason now gets refused for a second one.

Taking it personally. A muted word is usually a seller keeping their show on topic, not a judgement about you.

Asking about an item instead

If what you wanted was a closer look or a question about the current item, Ask about {title} attaches your question to the item rather than putting it in the general chat. More likely to be answered. The seller is holding it up and I still cannot see it

More: how a live show works, how to join a live show, how moderation works.
