No. There is no buyer's premium on Metzee. You pay what you bid, plus delivery.
What a buyer's premium is, if you have not met one
At a traditional auction house, the hammer price is not what you pay. A premium — frequently 20% or more — is added on top, plus tax on the premium. A ₹10,000 hammer can become ₹12,400 at the till.
It is the single biggest surprise for anyone bidding at an auction house for the first time, and it is why experienced bidders calculate backwards from what they are willing to pay.
None of that applies here. Your bid is the price of the item.
Where Metzee's money comes from
The seller's side. A commission comes out of what the store receives, with GST on that fee and the tax a marketplace is required to deduct — all of it visible on the seller's own earnings statement under what came off their balance.
So the fee exists; it is simply not charged to you. How we make money
What you do pay
- Your winning bid.
- Delivery, which you can check against your PIN code before bidding.
- A cash-on-delivery fee, only if you use cash on delivery on a buy-now listing that offers it — and that is a choice you make, not a default. Can I pay in cash?
That is the list. How do I know the total before I bid?
Why this matters for how you bid
At an auction house you must bid below your real limit, because the premium is coming. Here you can bid to your limit, because nothing is added.
That sounds small and it changes the arithmetic completely: a bidder carrying an auction-house habit into a Metzee show systematically underbids and loses items they would have been happy to win.
For sellers reading this
Worth saying out loud on camera, because buyers who have bought at auction houses assume a premium is coming. "The price you see is the price you pay, plus delivery" removes a hesitation you cannot otherwise see.
The thing to actually check
Not a premium — delivery. That is the one figure that can make a cheap item expensive, and it is the one you can know in advance. Why is delivery costing so much?
