What does it cost to sell on Metzee?

A commission, GST on that commission charged on top, and anything you choose to absorb. Nothing else, and nothing hidden.

Short answer: a commission on what you sell, GST on that commission, and whatever you decide to absorb yourself.

There is no listing fee, no monthly fee, and no charge for going live.

The commission

A percentage of each sale, taken from the proceeds at the point of sale.

We are not printing the rate in a blog post. It is a setting rather than a constant — it can differ by store — and a number written here goes stale and then misleads somebody who planned around it. Your current rate is on your own fee screen, where it is correct.

If a marketplace will not tell you its rate anywhere, be suspicious. If it will not put it in a blog post that cannot be kept up to date, that is just honesty about how numbers rot.

GST on the commission

The commission is a service we sell to you, so it carries GST like any other service — on top of the commission, not inside it.

Both appear as separate lines on your monthly invoice. That split is what makes the invoice usable when you file rather than being just a receipt.

What else comes off

These are not our fees. They are costs you chose, and they come off your balance rather than hiding inside the sale price:

  • Delivery you absorbed, if you offered free or subsidised delivery
  • Promotions and discounts you ran
  • Cash collected on delivery, reconciled against what reaches you

The running total of what was deducted is a figure you can read, not one you reconstruct.

When you get the money

After the item reaches the buyer, not when they pay. Why, and what you get in exchange for waiting.

Questions people ask

Is there a fee to list an item?

No. Listing is free, however many items you list and however long they sit unsold.

Is there a monthly fee?

No. There is no subscription and no charge for going live — the commission on what you sell is the only thing we take.

Do I pay commission on the delivery the buyer paid?

Your fee screen states exactly what the commission is calculated on. Check it there rather than assuming either way.

Do I get the commission back if I refund a buyer?

The rules for a full and a partial refund differ. Your statement shows what happened on any individual order.

Is GST included in the commission or added to it?

Added, on top, and shown as a separate line.

Where do I see what I actually earned?

Your payout statement, line by line, with every deduction named.

Do I need to charge GST on what I sell?

That depends on your own registration and turnover. Ask an accountant about your situation — we are not able to answer it for you.
