Keeping your chat civil

Three tools, and one the app describes that you do not actually have.

Most rooms need no moderation at all. For the ones that do, here is what you genuinely have.

What you can do

Delete a message. Gone from the room.

Pin a message, which is the underused one — pin the answer everybody keeps asking for, or the postage note, and stop repeating yourself.

Mute words in your own show. Your list, your room. These are not Metzee-wide bans; they are you deciding what you do not want in your chat. A buyer whose message is stopped is told it contained a word the host has muted. Why was my chat message hidden?

Block a buyer from your store. The strongest one. It stops them bidding on your items at all, and it is your right in your own store.

What you cannot do

You cannot time somebody out of chat. The permission description in the team settings says you can, and that is wrong — muting a person from chat across Metzee is a Console action, not a host one.

So if somebody is being abusive and deleting their messages is not enough, the tools are block them from your store and report them. Both work; a timeout is not among your options.

What is already handled for you

Words not allowed anywhere on Metzee are blocked everywhere, without you setting anything.

A rate limit stops one person flooding the room.

Metzee-wide mutes exist for conduct, applied by Metzee rather than by you. What is not allowed in a show chat

When to use which

A heated opinion about price. Nothing. It is an auction; people are allowed to think something is overpriced.

Repeated noise. Mute the word if there is one. Otherwise delete and carry on.

Abuse, or somebody posting another person's details. Delete, block, report. Do not argue in front of the room — it gives them the audience they came for. Dealing with rude comments

Somebody pushing a sale off Metzee. Refuse publicly, then report. The room seeing you refuse is worth more than the message being gone.

The thing that prevents most of it

A host who talks. Rooms go sour when nothing is happening and nobody is being acknowledged. Reading questions aloud and answering by name is moderation that does not feel like moderation. Handling questions while you sell

If you want help

Put somebody on the team with a moderating role so you are not watching the chat and selling at once. Getting someone to help run your store

More: what is not allowed in a show chat, handling questions while you sell, how moderation works.
