A bag has a shape, and the shape is part of what was bought. Most damage in this category is the shape not surviving the journey.
Stuff it
Fill the bag with paper or bubble until it holds its own shape. An empty bag folds under the weight of whatever is stacked on it, and a fold line in leather can be permanent.
Do not stuff with anything coloured or printed that can transfer — plain paper only, and never newspaper against a light lining.
Then
- Handles and straps wrapped, so buckles cannot press into the body
- Hardware wrapped individually — zips and clasps scratch the leather they sit against
- The whole bag in a dust bag or a soft cloth, then in plastic against damp
- Into a box large enough that nothing presses in, with the voids filled
- Never a soft envelope: it tells every parcel on top of it that this one is squashable
Small accessories
Scarves folded along existing folds, in tissue. Belts coiled loosely, not folded — a fold in a belt stays. Sunglasses in a hard case, always.
Damp
Leather and damp are a bad pairing and an Indian monsoon finds every parcel. A sealed bag inside the box costs nothing. Monsoon and your stock.
Questions people ask
What should I stuff a bag with?
Plain paper or bubble. Enough to hold the shape, not so much that it stretches.
Can I post two bags in one box?
Yes, each stuffed and wrapped separately so hardware cannot meet leather.
Does the dust bag go in the parcel?
If it was part of the sale, yes — and it is also the right first layer around the bag.
