There is no screen where you photograph your face. What people mean by "getting verified" on Metzee is two separate things, and they are reached from different places.
- Documents. The legal papers your store needs — which depend on what you sell and how you sell it. Without one of them, your store cannot sell at all.
- The
Verifiedtier. A step up fromStarter, earned by selling, which raises your listing slots and puts a badge on your store.
Do the first. The second arrives on its own.
Part one — the documents
Seller settings → Business & documents, headed What Metzee needs from your store.
The screen lists only what your own answers make necessary. A sneaker reseller selling as an individual with a GSTIN is asked for one thing. A registered bakery is asked for three.
The four kinds
GST certificate— number fieldGSTIN, hint15 characters. Asked for if you have a GSTIN.ECO enrolment— number fieldECO enrolment number, hintAs issued on the GST portal. This is the route for a seller with no GSTIN. It is free to get.FSSAI licence— number fieldFSSAI number, hint14 digits, as printed on the certificate. Asked for if you sell food, and that includes cakes and hampers made to order.Business registration— number fieldRegistration number, hintCIN, LLPIN, Udyam or shop licence number. Asked for if yourSeller typeisRegistered business.
The one that stops you selling
GST certificate and ECO enrolment are the same gate, and either one satisfies it. You need a GSTIN or an ECO enrolment number, never both.
If you have given neither, the screen asks for both — not because both are needed, but because until you pick one the app cannot know which to ask for.
FSSAI licence holds up only your food listings; everything else sells while it is being checked. Business registration holds up nothing at all — it is kept for invoices and tax records.
Sending one
Open the card, type the number, and use Choose a photo or PDF. For a licence that lapses there is a Valid until date to fill in. Then Send to Metzee, and you will see Sent — the Metzee team will check it.
A photo of the certificate is fine. It has to be readable, flat and not cropped — all four corners, no finger over the number.
The six states
Each card carries one word for where it stands:
Not sent yet— nothing has been sentAsked for— Metzee has asked for this one specifically, and the reason appears asMetzee asked for this: {note}Being checked— sent, waitingApproved— doneNeeds fixing— something was wrong, and the reason appears asMetzee asked you to fix this: {note}. The button becomesSend it again.Expired— it was approved and the date has passed. It counts as missing again.
An expired licence is the one that catches people out. Nothing announced itself; the state simply changed back.
Part two — the Verified tier
This lives in the seller dashboard under Official seller tier, not in settings.
There are four: Starter, Verified, Pro, Brand Partner.
Starter— where every new store begins.5 buy-now listing slots.Verified—10 paid salesandID verified (PAN on file). Gives10 buy-now listing slotsand aVerified badge on your store.Pro—50 paid sales,4.5★ average rating,3 months selling. Gives20 buy-now listing slots.Brand Partner—By invitation.Unlimited listing slots.
The panel shows each requirement with where you stand against it. When both are met, the button Request {tier} review appears, and after you use it the panel reads Review requested — we’ll let you know.
The PAN half
ID verified (PAN on file) means exactly what it says: a PAN saved in Seller settings → Business & tax. It shows there as PAN · saved {pan} once added, and the screen notes it is Required to receive payouts.
So the PAN is not optional in practice. You need it to be paid at all, and it is half of what Verified asks for.
The badges are a different thing
Your profile also carries a badge: New Seller, Rising, Established, Top Seller, Elite. Those come from a reputation score and unlock nothing. The tier controls listing slots; the badge is a reputation display. Two systems, two different panels, and they move independently.
Questions people ask
Do I need a GSTIN to sell?
No — you need a GSTIN or an ECO enrolment number. The enrolment number exists so you can sell here without registering for GST, and it is free to get.
Can I sell while a document is being checked?
It depends which one. The tax identity has to be approved before your store can sell. FSSAI holds up only the food listings. Business registration holds up nothing.
How long does it take?
See how long verification takes.
Mine came back as Needs fixing. What now?
The note on the card says what was wrong. Fix that, use Send it again. If verification was rejected.
Does the Verified tier need a document?
It needs a PAN on file and ten paid sales. The documents above are a separate requirement that applies to every store.
