Choosing a courier

You book it yourself today. What to compare, and the one thing that decides most of it.

Right now you book your own courier. Metzee Delivery — booking and tracking through the app — is built and is not switched on yet, so the arrangement is between you and a carrier.

Saying that plainly beats sending you to look for a button that is not there.

What that means practically

You choose the carrier, you book the pickup or go to a counter, and you put the tracking number on the order. How to mark an order shipped

You set the price buyers pay, from your own rates — so the number you charge should come from a real quote rather than a guess. How do I work out what to charge for postage?

What to compare

Price for your actual parcel, measured and weighed. Not the headline rate — a quote for a box you have packed. Couriers bill the greater of weight and size, so a bulky item is priced very differently by different carriers. What is chargeable weight?

Where they actually reach. Remote PIN codes are where carriers differ most, and where one will quietly hand your parcel to a slower partner. Delivering outside the big cities

Pickup from you, or a counter? A daily pickup is worth a lot once you are posting regularly.

What they refuse. Liquids, batteries, aerosols, blades, perishables — the refusal list is longer than the law's and it differs by carrier. Check before you list something awkward, not after you sell it. Why some items can only be collected

How claims work. You are the sender, so a lost or damaged parcel is your claim to make. The courier lost it — now what

The one that decides most of it

Reliability to the places your buyers actually are. Not the cheapest rate — the one that arrives. A parcel saved ₹20 on and lost costs you the item, the refund and a mark on your record.

So look at your own orders: where have they gone, and which carrier handled the ones that went smoothly?

Using more than one

Common and sensible. A cheap carrier for small light things, a better one for anything valuable or going far, and your own delivery for local. Delivery is set per item, so your range does not have to share one answer. Giving each item its own delivery rules

When Metzee Delivery is switched on

Booking and tracking move into the app, and the delivery a buyer paid passes through to cover it rather than being yours. The app will say so; nothing for you to switch on.

More: how do I work out what to charge for postage, how to pack an order, delivering locally yourself.
