Cash collected on delivery

You keep the cash, so the fee comes off your balance. Six conditions, and the ones that surprise people.

Cash on delivery is something a store switches on, and the money moves differently from every other order.

The part that catches people

You keep the cash. So Metzee's commission on that sale — and any pay-on-sale promotion fee — comes out of your balance instead of out of the payment.

That is not an extra charge. It is the same fee, taken from the only place it can be taken from when the money never passed through Metzee. But it does mean a run of COD orders reduces your withdrawable balance rather than growing it, which is the thing to understand before switching it on. What is my balance?

Where it applies

Buy Now items only. Not auctions, not custom offers, not items added in a live show.

That is worth stating plainly because it is the commonest wrong assumption: an auction win can never be paid in cash. Can I pay cash?

Delivered by you or by a courier. Pickup and your own delivery are completed with a code and are paid online — so "I will pay when I collect" is not a thing.

Up to a maximum order value.

Who can use it

Your store, if you switch it on and do not owe Metzee more than a set amount.

The buyer, if they have had at least one prepaid order delivered and have not refused too many parcels. So a brand-new account cannot start with cash on delivery, which is most of what keeps refusal rates sane.

How the order moves

It sits as processing, with payment pending, until you mark the cash collected. That turns it into an ordinary paid, delivered sale.

Mark it promptly. An order left pending is one that has not settled, and it is your own money sitting in the wrong state.

Should you offer it

For: it converts buyers who will not pay online, which in India is a real share of the market.

Against: refused parcels cost you the round trip, the fee still comes off your balance, and the money arrives as cash you have to handle.

A reasonable middle: switch it on for lower-value buy-now stock and leave it off for anything expensive.

Watch your balance

Because the fee is debited rather than deducted, a store selling mostly on COD can drift toward You owe Metzee without anything being wrong. Check the statement rather than assuming. How to read your payout statement

More: what is my balance, what comes out of a sale, can I pay cash.
