Pricing baby and child items for a live auction

Children outgrow things in months, so condition and completeness carry more than age does.

Most of this category is nearly-new, because it was used for a season and then outgrown. That shapes the pricing.

What moves the number

  • Completeness — everything there, in a category where a missing part can stop the sale entirely
  • Condition and cleanliness, said honestly
  • Age of the item, not the age of the child who used it
  • Whether the manual is included
  • For safety items, how much of the history you can confirm

Where to start

Clothing, toys and everyday items: low start, run in size lots. Parents buy by size, so a lot that is all one size sells and a mixed bundle does not.

Prams, cots and larger items: start sensibly, and decide the delivery position first — these are often collection items and that makes the room local and smaller. A reserve is worth having.

Lots that work

By size, by season, or by stage. "Twelve pieces, all 6-12 months, all washed, all described" is a lot that sells itself.

Do not price around a missing part

If something safety-critical is missing, the item is not a discounted item — it is one that may not be listed. Prohibited items.

Questions people ask

Should I sell clothes individually?

Rarely worth the camera time. Lots by size are the whole game here.

Does a brand matter?

Less than condition and completeness, in most of this category.

How do I price something barely used?

Honestly, and say it was barely used with why — "bought, used twice, she grew" is believable and it sells.
