What is a pickup point?

A place a store hands orders over. What it tells you before you choose it, and the one checkout rule to know.

A place a store will hand an order to you in person — their shop, their studio, a stall they keep, a market they are at on Saturdays.

Choosing pickup at checkout usually means no delivery charge and no courier, which is why it is popular for anything heavy, fragile or local.

What a store tells you about one

Each point carries:

  • A name — what the store calls it
  • An address, with the city and PIN code
  • Its opening hours, in words
  • Which days it is open
  • A note, if there is anything to know on arrival

The days matter more than they look: they feed your collection deadline, so a point that is shut on Sundays gives you an extra day rather than eating one. What does "collect by" mean?

A store can have several

Up to five pickup points — a shop and a weekend market stall, say, or two branches.

They are listed at checkout with the one nearest your PIN code first, and you pick which suits you.

The checkout rule worth knowing

Two different pickup points are not one shipment. If you are buying two things from the same store and they are at different points, they are paid for separately rather than combined.

Which is sensible — they are two journeys for you — but it surprises people expecting one delivery charge. If you want them together, ask the store whether both can be at one point. Can I combine several orders?

What to check before choosing pickup

That you can actually get there within the window. A point an hour away that is open on weekday mornings is a worse deal than paid delivery, whatever it saves.

The note. It is where a store puts the things that matter on the day — which gate, which floor, ring first, ask for someone by name.

That you will have the order number. It is how they find your parcel.

Safety, briefly

Meet at the stated address during the stated hours, and take the order details with you. A store asking you to come somewhere other than the published point, or to pay anything in cash on arrival, is off the rails — the order is already paid for. Is Metzee safe to buy from?

For sellers

Set the days and hours honestly, including the days you are shut, because the app builds buyers' deadlines from them. And use the note for the thing you find yourself saying on the phone every time. How to offer pickup
