Why was my item taken down?

You were told the reason, in the notification. Where to find it, and why the item will not go back on sale.

When Metzee takes an item down you get a notification, and the reason is in it. The title is Taken down: followed by the item, and the body is the reason itself, then: It can’t go back on sale. Think it’s a mistake? Contact us from Help.

A reason is required before anyone can take an item down, so there is always one. If you have lost the notification, the next section is where to look.

Where to find it again

The notification is in your notifications list. Tapping it opens a support request with the item already attached, under Listings & inventory — which is the route for Adding items, stock, taken-down items.

That is also the appeal route, so one tap does both jobs. Can I appeal a decision?

Why it will not relist

Try to put it back on sale and you get: Metzee took this item down, so it can’t go back on sale. Contact Metzee from Help if you think this is a mistake.

That is deliberate rather than a glitch. The block stays until Metzee lifts it, so re-listing the same thing under a new title is not a workaround — it is the same item and the same reason.

The usual reasons

In rough order of how often they come up:

Something on the not-allowed list. Counterfeit, stolen, illegal or dangerous items, and anything needing a licence you do not have. Metzee’s position on counterfeits

Someone else’s photographs, brand or words used without the right to use them. Using someone else’s brand, photos or words

The wrong category, which is usually fixed by moving it rather than taking it down.

A description that does not match the item — the commonest honest mistake, and the easiest to avoid.

If it is reversed

You get a second notification: Back on sale: and Metzee reviewed it again. Put it back on sale from your listings whenever you’re ready.

Note the last part — it does not relist itself. You put it back on when you want to.

One thing that cannot happen mid-auction

An item being auctioned live cannot be taken down underneath you. The auction has to be ended first, so a bid in progress is never pulled out from under a bidder.

What it means for your store

A single take-down is not a strike against your account and is not the same as a suspension. What does matter is a pattern, because repeated take-downs for the same reason read as deliberate rather than careless.

The cheapest response is to look at your other listings for the same problem before anyone else does.

More: how moderation works, why was my account suspended, what you cannot sell.
